Vampire Lore

Vampire backstory

Sanguine, Malady, and Vigor were all obsessed with dark magic, even more specifically, necromancy. Malady and Vigor were siblings, Vigor the older brother, and Malady the younger sister. They wanted nothing more than to control life and death itself, so Vigor learned how to bring the dead back to life, while Malady learned how to create disease in a person, and kill them over time, or nearly instantly. Malady was following a large supply cart, when a man tackled her behind a large boulder. At first she thought he was attacking her, but then she realized he had kept her from being caught. He told her his name was Sanguine, a man her age who used the blood of others to empower himself or heal himself. She brought him back to their home, and the three started working together. Over the next few years, Malady and Sanguine fell in love, and Vigor thought it ok, because he liked Sanguine enough and enjoyed him. They studied many books of magic, and each became masters of their own forms of necromancy, Sanguine controlled blood, Malady disease, and Vigor resurrection. Over the next decade or so, they formed a cult of sorts, taking in members, and working towards a goal. Summoning the powerful god of plague, Necrosis.

"Malady, Vigor I have some news," shouted Sanguine, "we have chosen the sacrificial lamb."

"Good, my friend. This means we can finally go forth with the ritual." Vigor stated contently.

"Sanguine, you amaze me. How did you find a suitable one so quickly?" Malady chimed in.

"It's simple, really. I just went to the Capitol and waited outside the church, last evening. Convinced a young priest that I needed his help," Sanguine said.

"Ah, so he is a priest. I suppose that makes him all the more appealing to necrosis." Vigor said, almost smiling.
And that was the start of something even more serious than the three cult leaders could have guessed, they would soon take part in the creation of something even more powerful than their dreams had thought up.
Sanguine, Malady, and Vigor surrounded the priest, who was chained to a large stone table. They chanted some words and phrases from a dead language, and then commenced the ritual. Sanguine thought it was always best to kill people quickly, so he slit the priests throat, and went on with the sacrifice. He drained as much blood as possible from the priest, and put it into a large wooden bowl. Vigor resurrected the priest on the table, now a perfectly controlled undead body, Malady twisted her magic through it, turning the already dead flesh into a virus-filled zombie like creature. They then chanted again. This time the body was enveloped with a dark mist. And a deep voice growled, who dares bring me out of my domain? It was Necrosis. They told him that they wanted him to grant them power, and that they had the pure blood of a man for him to drink, and a diseased corpse for him to eat. Necrosis cackled, saying that they would indeed be rewarded. He created a shadowy figure out of the mist, opened a massive mouth and ate the living corpse's head. He then drank the blood and said something they could not understand. Then he said this. "I will grant you all a power that will forever reign a symbol of my ability. And also yours. If your magic is truly masterful. Then you will live, if not... I suppose I could just send a wave of demons down on the world." he then spun in a circle and turned into a red mist, and the zombie-like body started to glow a deep red. It then evaporated and a red energy filled the room. The three were infected with a dark and powerful cursed virus. They all fell over, struggled to keep conscious, but they seemed to be dead after a short time, then the mist surrounded them, and brought their pale bodies back to life, not the mindless life created through normal necromancy, but actual life. Their teeth grew so they had 2 long fangs on the top row, and 2 slightly smaller fangs on the bottom. Their eyes became a deep blood red, and their hands grew claws as sharp as their fangs. Necrosis congratulated them with a maniacal chuckle, and then disappeared. Sanguine, Malady, and Vigor had become the first Vampires.

After the three realized the power they now had, they moved their belongings to a large underground city, and turned all of their cult members into vampires. Preying on the blood of the races at night, and living underground during day, except for the high bloods who could walk freely on the surface even in the sun, and built a magnificent city, with a castle, several "hives" where many of the low bloods lived, and tunnels with "mansions" for high bloods, who were Sanguine, Malady, their son Blight, Vigor, his 2 sons, and any vampire who was married to a high blood became a high blood, so Vigor's Wife was a high blood as well, but this was only a title, so spouses remained the same strength as a low blood. The 3 elder vampires and Vigor's wife lived in the castle, while Blight had a mansion, and vigor's two sons each had one as well. The rest of the vampires lived in the hives, or small homes if they could afford it.

The vampires lived a life of luxury, and comfort, but also honed their predatory abilities through dueling each other and hunting people. Once, they were called upon by Necrosis, who said that he wanted something out of his pact with the three elders, and that was to conquer the human race, by turning as many as possible, then taking the rest as blood slaves, and whether they succeeded or failed, he would grant them their freedom, not from the curse, but from his rule. The Terragon foresaw a terrible war between the powerful vampires, and the might of the human army’s size, so the Terragon decided to end it before it could happen.

The Terragon summoned 6 powerful dragons, and decided that if they destroyed almost all of the vampires, then the threat of a massive war would not come, so they brought the dragons to the vampiric city, and used magic to move the earth above it so the dragons could fly in. The dragons made it first to the hives, killing nearly all of the low bloods. Some of the stronger low bloods, like the vampiric guards, coordinated defensive strikes on the dragons, but were only able to slay a single dragon before being all but wiped out. Blight came quickly from his mansion, and brought the remaining low bloods back to it. He took the tunnel back into the city, and blocked it off with a large boulder. He looked around and saw the other high bloods fighting the dragons from the castle.

Sanguine, Malady, Vigor, and his two sons were fighting the dragons back, Vigor jumped onto one of the dragon’s backs, and forced it to fly into a tower, he jumped off of its back at the last second, but a second dragon swept down and caught Vigor in mid air, diving into the ground, and killing him beneath its large claws, Vigor’s sons dove down onto the dragon, angrily fighting it, while Blight took the opportunity to try and slay the disoriented dragon that Vigor flew into the tower. The remaining three dragons threw balls of fire around the city, while Sanguine and Malady helped Blight and Vigor’s sons defeat the two dragons at the castle. The strongest of the dragons was covered in golden scales, so Malady and Sanguine decided it best if they fought it, while Blight and his two cousins took on one of the other two dragons. Sanguine distracted the dragon while Malady jumped on it, and tried to injure it with her magic, Sanguine then helped by attacking it with his magic as well. But the dragon was too strong for the magic to kill alone, so Sanguine decided to attack it with his own two hands. he heavily injured the dragon, but was torn to shreds himself, Malady finished the dragon off and sat beside her dying husband, who was too injured to be revived by magic. Blight and his cousins managed to kill one of the other two dragons, but they were heavily injured, and needed to find cover. they looked back to see Malady fighting the last dragon with a rage they had never seen from her. the dragon tore into her, grabbing her in its mouth. While the dragon was trying to eat her, she managed to tear apart its face, Blight ran over to help, but was too late to save his mother, so he helped finish the dragon, and collapsed, heartbroken over the loss of over half of his family.

Blight moved to the castle, grieving with his cousins over the loss of their parents. The remaining vampires decided that Blight, being the son of 2/3 of the vampire elders, should become the vampire king, and they renamed him Overlord Blight. Necrosis now had no claim of power over the vampires, because this attack caused them to fail their task, and the three vampires that had a pact with him had died. Blight’s cousins decided that they would walk the world, disguised as humans, because all they had known since birth was the city and hunting for food, and since then, not much is known about the Vampiric people, except that they often come out at night and steal the blood of whomever may be foolish enough to be out, and occasionally steal away people to become new vampires. They are also known to ally with other races in return for blood trades.
